Help with Energy Bill: Cost-of-Living Grant

The government is preparing to hand out a £400 cost-of-living grant to low-income households in October. The money is not intended to cover the full costs of increased energy bills, however.

Fortunately, more targeted support is on the way for low-income families, pensioners and disabled people. This support will go beyond the energy profit levy, which will phase out when prices return to normal.

Another £650 cost-of-living grant is set to be distributed to eight million households on benefits such as Universal Credit, Tax Credits, and Pension Credit. It will be paid in two instalments – one in the summer and one in the autumn. It will be paid directly to qualifying households.

The £650 will be available to households in two different forms – direct debit and credit accounts. People on pre-payment meters will get their money through a voucher instead. This money will not have to be repaid, and it will not need to be refunded. HMRC will also be preparing tax credit payments soon.

This grant is intended to help pensioners who are already receiving their Winter Fuel Payment. This payment is an automatic top-up of the existing £200 – £300 payment, and won’t affect your eligibility for other government benefits if you’re a pensioner.

Pensioner households will also be eligible for a £150 one-off payment for energy bills, which will be added to their existing Winter Fuel Payment in November. This Payment is not taxable and does not affect other benefits you may be receiving.

The extra cost-of-living grant for utility bills is great news for families struggling to afford monthly energy bills. This extra payment is tax-free and will be paid to pensioners and disabled people in two lump sums – July and September.

The payments will be automatic and won’t count towards your benefits cap. This extra money will help you keep your energy costs down

Help with Energy Bill: Energy Bill Discount

This grant is part of the £15 billion cost-of-living support package. This money will go to any household that pays for their energy bills, regardless of their income level. The energy grant will go to as many as 28 million households in the UK – Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak originally announced that £200 energy bill discounts would be available to lower-income households, but these were meant to be paid back within five years. He has now decided to scrap the repayment requirement – Good news for many, I’m sure 🙂

The government will offer this energy discount to every home that uses energy. However, people who own more than one house will benefit from it more than once, since the £400 grant will be paid to more than one address.

This new discount will cost the government £120.5 million. However, the money will go to households that are already struggling to pay their energy bills. This government grant will give people a chance to improve living conditions and reduce household bills.

Help with Energy Bill: Council tax rebate

Many people have heard about the UK Government’s new scheme to help us all with the cost of living and council tax rebate. While the money is great, it’s important to be aware that it can be misused by malicious scammers. Some of them pose as local councils or government departments, and use false messages to attract unsuspecting victims. Do be mindful of that!

The cost-of-living crisis is affecting millions in the UK, causing the Chancellor to announce a £15 billion support package. In addition to the grant, the government will provide support for vulnerable households, low-income individuals, and pensioners. The £400 cost-of-living grant will not have to be repaid, unlike the £200 energy bill levy, which previously had to be paid over five years.

People in eligible council tax bands A-D are entitled to a £150 rebate on your bills. Payments started going into bank accounts in April, but some councils have delayed them until May. There could be a delay/ lengthy wait if you don’t pay by direct debit though.

Help with Energy Bill: Pensioner payment

This autumn, you could get a bonus of £400 pounds off your electricity bill. As a pensioner, you are automatically eligible for the cost-of-living grant. The government will send £400 to households with domestic electricity connections.

Credit or direct debit customers will receive a £400 credit in October, while pre-payment meter customers will receive a voucher. The benefit will be paid over six months. The Government has made it clear that it is not intended to be a one-off payment.

Help with Energy Bill: Payment to people on disability benefits

The UK Government has announced a new way to help those on disability benefits manage their finances. From September, the government will pay £150 towards energy bills to households on benefits. This money will not count towards the benefit cap and is not recoverable through higher bills.

And if you’re on disability benefits, you can also qualify for a discount on your energy bills.

The cost-of-living grant for people on disability benefits will be paid to eight million low-income households, and payments will be automatically deposited into their bank accounts.

The £650 payment will be split between the summer and autumn, and people who receive disability benefits will receive a further £150 payment in September. This extra £150 may be applicable if you use more electricity than normal.

The UK government is extending the £400 grant to every household. This will help every household, regardless of their need for help, to reduce their energy bills.

The government initially arranged for this discount to be paid to households that are struggling with the cost of energy – but that has now been updated to include every UK household.

There is no need to apply for the £400 energy grant. The amount of money you receive will be subtracted from your energy monthly bill.

Customers with direct debit or credit accounts will see the money added to their account over six months beginning in October 2022. Customers with prepayment meters will either have the money applied to their meter or pay via a coupon.

If you’re struggling to pay your UK energy bill, there are a number of options available to you. Contact your energy supplier, as many offer grant schemes to help you make ends meet.

You may also be eligible for a break from payments or a new payment plan, which can help you avoid being in arrears altogether. You should try contacting your supplier as early as possible, as they may be able to work out a solution that will make paying your bill easier for you.

Another option is to switch suppliers to save money, but it’s important to note that you must pay your debt to your old supplier before you can switch to a cheaper deal.

Yes. You can get help with your utility bills with Universal Credit to help you cover the cost of water, gas, and electricity. Currently, the government is offering £15bn in additional support for struggling households, and a wide range of schemes to reduce the cost of energy bills.

There are also benefits for renters who pay a local authority or a housing association. These payments are based on the number of people living on the property and the number of spare bedrooms. Those who have one spare room will qualify for the full rent.

Renters with two or more spare rooms will have their rent reduced by an additional 14% or 25%. If you live with an adult who is 21 years of age or above, then you may be able to claim housing costs with Universal Credit.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by money problems, talk to a trusted friend or family member. Discussing your situation with another person can help you put things into perspective and find solutions.
